• • • Dr. Carlson has utilized acupuncture and electroacupuncture in a variety of challenging cases, particularly those involving paralysis, spondylosis, neuropathy, and other neurologic conditions.
    • Remembering Bella
      • Bella was a 4-year-old Dachshund who presented with hind limb paralysis in 2010. At the time, total disc protrusion was suspected. Surgical intervention was not an option for her family, but Bella’s owners trusted Dr. Carlson. They understood that if treatment was unsuccessful, Bella’s quality of life would be severely impacted. Faced with the possibility of saying goodbye, they decided to pursue alternative therapy.
      • Bella checked in for her stay on December 28th. The first few days of treatment were challenging, and everyone waited anxiously for signs of improvement. Bella quickly adapted to her wheelchair, and while the staff and her family remained hopeful, the outlook seemed less promising with each passing day.
      • On Day 6, Bella’s tail began to wag. On Day 7, she was able to briefly support her own weight. By Day 9, movement returned to her back legs. On Day 13, Bella was walking independently without the assistance of her wheelchair. She walked out of the hospital on January 11th, 2011.
      • Of course, Bella’s recovery was a long journey that required continued care and maintenance. She went on to live a relatively uneventful and peaceful life, surrounded by the people who loved her. Bella crossed the rainbow bridge last September, just shy of her 19th birthday, surrounded by her family and the veterinarian who had cared for her for 15 years.
      • Bella was Dr. Carlson’s first rehabilitation case, and her incredible outcome continues to amaze and inspire us every day. She will be deeply missed.
